2010 - 2011 COMMUNITY GRANT APPLICATIONS

The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is currently offering grants, up to $75,000, for innovative projects in the areas of breast health and/or breast cancer education/outreach, screening, treatment and support projects. Priority will be given to projects targeting services not otherwise available to medically underserved populations and at risk populations, and that specifically address objectives outlined in the statement of need below. Projects must reach the Greater Nashville Affiliate Service Area, which includes Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson and Wilson counties.

STATEMENT OF NEED
Through a community needs assessment, the Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has identified the following funding needs.
Projects that:

Increase the availability and accessibility of breast health services in our communities, to reach uninsured/underinsured and low income women as well as minorities - particularly Black/African American and Hispanic/Latina women.

Address barriers to health services, e.g. financial assistance, extended hours, transportation.

Increase breast health education about early detection, improvements in treatment options and survival. Help address the fears surrounding breast cancer.

Build awareness of breast health programs and services in our communities.

Bring education to the communities where people work, shop and recreate.

Increase awareness and education of breast health among young women.

Provide culturally-appropriate support services to breast cancer survivors and their families.
